The film is based on photographs of indigenous hunters taken by John Thomson during his trip to Taiwan in 1871, blending drama and experimental techniques to explore the power that images shape historical impressions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The twin-lens stereocamera Thomson used was for Stereo Vision and also had a \u201cmanual burst\u201d mode (cover one lens at a time for a few seconds for exposure) to make two-photo test shots and select the best. After a long time, hunters are gone, and images are in power. Now, carrying a hundred-year-old twin-lens reflex camera, I wonder what those \u201cMata(s)\u201d had seen at that time. And after that, how do images represent us and Formosa, and what exactly are images before that? Are they still clear in Mata of the indescribable \u201cme, us\u201d?<\/span><\/p>\n
